This Week in Core

Native American Unit
Students are working on a mini research project. Each group is studying a different geographic region of North America and the people that inhabited that region. After reading and writing about the region, students are to create a visual aide to teach the class about that region. On Thursday, groups will present their research to the class, and on Friday students will use notes from the presentations to take their Native American test. This is our first step in our study of Canada. Next week: Vikings!

Valentine Ode Contest
All 6th grade students are working on a valentine tribute to a non-living object. These odes can be written with a partner or in a group of three. Odes will be presented to the class on Thursday and our class finalist will showcase their mad poetry skills in an all grade throw down on Friday in the lecture room. We will spend Monday finishing our rough drafts, Tuesday making these drafts finalized (after edits), and Wednesday practicing our speaking skills.
