Chapter 1 Section 3 "Quiz" (SS)
Students started their Chapter 1 Section 3 quiz today during Social Studies. Many did not finish during class time and it is now homework. The Babylon advertisement is due on MONDAY.

i. Paragraph= minimum 6 sentences, maximum 12 sentences

Chapter 1 Section 2 Exam (Social Studies)
Tomorrow (Friday), is our Chapter 1 Section 2 Exam. For this test students will be required to answer 3 of the questions below, in paragraph from, using the A.C.E. strategy. All students will answer question number 1 and then choose 2 of the remaining questions. These questions were discussed and practiced in class. Students that completed the "Civilization Chart" on time received a stamp on the chart and will be able to use the chart during the test. Other notes will not be permitted.
REQUIRED: 1. Why do historians classify ancient Sumer as a civilization?
2. Which Mesopotamian invention or idea do you believe is the most
important to humanity?
Note about #2: this is an opinion question and there is not a correct answer.
3. Why do civilizations need public sets of laws? Using Hammurabi’s
Code as an example, explain why rules and laws understood by everyone are
necessary for a civilization to continue to develop.

4. What about the geography of Mesopotamia attracted people to settle
there and form societies?
5. How did the Sumerian invention of cuneiform influence civilizations
for centuries to come? Explain the short-term and long-term impact of the
writing system.
Note about #5: this is the most challenging of the test questions as we did not discuss this idea at length in class. Students working on a challenge option should choose to answer this question.

Why do Historians Classify Sumer as a Civilization? (notes from SS)
We completed this with our table partners today during Social Studies, students that are not finished need to complete the chart for homework. We will go over this together tomorrow (Thursday) during class.
