Travel Project Hints

1. WikiTravel is a great starting point for this project. http://wikitravel.org/en/Latin_America

2. If you run across a site that does not work, keep trying the link list until you find one that does!

3. Don't get frustrated! Sites will work one day and then be broken the next, don't get discouraged.

Latin America Project/Market Day/Tater Travel

The project that you will begin in class today goes by many names...at the very basic level it is a project on Latin America. In the past, the project was called Bryant Travel or Tater Travel and this year as we combine forces with Mr. Willing and Mrs. Rau the project will be called Market Day.

As we begin our research today, you will need the following:
  1. Your country assignment
  2. Country profile (aka research sheet #1)
  3. Research sheet #2
  4. A patient, positive, cooperative attitude: some links will be broken, some computers may be slow, some information may be hard to find but YOU WILL GET THIS DONE! You've had a lot of practice and you can and will create something very, very awesome.

1776

After our discussion today, I thought it would be a nice idea for you to review the following information...

from wikipedia:

"In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain."

Putting things in perspective...

Using THIS website, I was able to see just how large the gulf oil spill is compared with Newberg. As you can see from the picture below, this spill covers a huge amount of earth. The picture shows how much ground the spill would cover if it had happened here. What an enormous environmental impact!

Monday

Just a reminder that the class calendar (which will tell you what you missed if you were gone) is located at the top of this page under the "Class Calendar" tab. Every Monday we record the weekly calendar into our planner so that students know what we will do each day and know what to ask about if they are absent. For your convenience, the calendar is also located on the right hand side of this blog.

Below is a copy of this week's calendar (please click on it to make it larger):

May the Fourth be With You!

Happy Star Wars day to all of my young Jedi out in blog land.

Do something today that Yoda, Luke or even Han Solo would do.

Also...check out this cool spelling site: http://www.spinandspell.com/
Happy spelling.
