Spring Break...

Ok, how have you been entertaining yourselves?
So far I spent a day shopping and 2 days in Seattle. The rest of the week I'm hitting the beach. I'll show more pics on Monday, but here is one from Seattle of me and my mom at Pike's Market!

Calendar is BACK!

I am happy to report that I have found a calendar for the main web page. You can view it here:

http://ms.bryants.page.googlepages.com/calendarandassignments

The calendar will be updated every Monday and can be accessed through the main web page, under the "Calendar & Assignments" tab!

Thank you for being patient!

This week in Core...

Language Arts: we're starting off the week by looking at writing strategies for the district writing assessment which is heading our way in April. Over the next two weeks we will take a practice assessment, and look at how the scorers use the scoring guide to grade our papers. We'll be getting new reading logs on Wednesday and we'll continue with fun write Friday, and grammar Wednesday.

Social Studies: We're finishing our Canada project this week (it is due on Thursday!), we'll begin presenting on Thursday and wrap things up with the Canada test on Monday. These dates are not set in stone, and if the work days push presentations into next week, the test too will be moved. Keep an eye on the blog for updates!

Have a wonderful week!

Adios Trimester Dos, Oui, Oui, it's Trimester Three

Trimester Two (or "the long haul" as I like to call it), is behind us officially this afternoon at about 3:00pm when grades are due. Trimester Three (or "the woo-hoo") is coming and soon it will be spring break and then May, June and sionara sixth grade :(

Until then, we have a plate full of fun and exciting new foods to try, sprinkled throughout (of course) with our favorite standbys (spelling tests, grammar day and reading anyone?)... Third trimester brings a truck load of excitement.

In Social Studies: We'll finish up our Canada unit this week (hopefully), and then begin looking at the Inca, Aztec and Maya (this is a 3 week unit which culminates with the chapter 11 &12 test). From there, we'll put our travel agent caps on and report to Mr. Tater about the best destination for his south of the border holiday.

In the lovely world of Language Arts: District writing assessment takes place in April, we'll continue with our DOL, grammar days, and fun write Fridays. We are done with BARF and book conferences and instead will focus our reading energy toward the Meeting Challenges Conference, and a book talk. We'll wrap things up with the 6th grade survival guide imovie project at the end of the year.

I'm ready to engage you with all of these wonderful curricular projects, I sincerely hope that you are ready to learn!

This week in Core: 3/3 - 3/6

There certainly is a lot going on this week (and it's only 4 days long)!

Monday: We will celebrate the birthday of Cat in the Hat author Dr. Seuss by participating in Read Across America (which falls on March 2nd each year, or March 3rd is the 2nd is on a weekend). We'll try our best to craft a story as entertaining as The Cat in the Hat by using the same 236 letters that Seuss used to write his story.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be working on our Canada projects (maps and posters are due next week), and we'll be finishing our book conferences (which are due Thursday). In addition to the fun these projects will bring us, we'll have grammar day and our final reading log for 2nd trimester due on Wednesday.

Thursday is the last day of the trimester, and Tuesday is the last day for make up, extra credit and late work for this trimester report card.

Friday is a teacher work day and there is no school for students.

woo hoo!
