Current Events, Reading Assessments and Reading Logs: Oh My!
Current Event #1 was introduced, and is due on Friday, September 21st, iit is worth 50 points. For a copy of the current event assignment click here. For a list of helpful current events links, click here.
In addition, students took the reading assessment which will help the 6th grade teachers place students in the appropriate leveled reading class next week. Students will receive their reading placements next week and parents will be able to meet reading teachers at back to school night on Thursday Sept 21st.
There is quite a bit of confusion surrounding the independent reading log. Students can begin reading and recording their minutes at any time. But the first week's log is not due until September 26th. If a student were to read their 150 minutes this weekend, they would be covered for the week's log.
Writing warm-up: What is your favorite after school activity? Explain.

Today's Class: September 10th
Ahoy, and welcome to yer second week of school young pirates!
In all honesty, I have been pleasantly surprised and impressed by your good behavior and eagerness to learn new things (I hope that doesn't change!!)
Students are working hard on their personal geography project, by creating either a map explaining the whereabouts of all the important places in their lives, or a chart depicting how the five themes of geography are connected to them personally. Tomorrow, students will travel the library to explore the ways in which computers are your classroom friends.
Today's writing warm-up prompt: In at least 4 sentences, describe the strangest food that you have ever eaten. Why was it strange?
If you were absent today, be sure to copy down this week's planner entries from a friend or the Miss B website!

Today's Class: September 5th
Today in all their classes, students reviewed the school handbook. Handbooks should be reviewed with parents and then stored in student's binders for easy access.
In addition to handbooks, I went over my wildcat cash program with students. Wildcat cash is worth five cents at the school store and can be used to "purchase" various things in the classroom. Please refer to the class website for a complete list of how to earn and spend your wildcat cash.
Planners were given to students and this week's calendar was recorded. Planners need to be brought with students to each class every day. Parents and students can view the weekly calendar by visiting this website.
